What is that spooky monument on 16th Street NW, and what secrets does it hold? It’s the headquarters of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Southern Jurisdiction, and it is laden with mysterious treasures … including a free monthly Children’s Hour!
The House of the Temple Historic Preservation Foundation hosts the kids’ event on the second Saturday of every month at 10 a.m. in the House of the Temple Atrium at 1733 16th St NW. The lineup features well known children’s entertainers: Rocknoceros (Feb. 8), One Man Band (March 14) and the Great Zucchini (April 11). Check out the schedule.

The best secret of all: Free parking in the lot directly behind the temple, accessible from S St. NW, 15th St. NW, and the alley between the building and the Chastleton.
