Garden Explorers: A Saturday Camp for Rising 2nd-5th Graders

Here’s an opportunity for rising 2nd-5th graders: At Garden Explorers camp, they will explore growing, cooking and eating delicious food. They will care for plants, make recipes and crafts, go for walks and talk about food topics, such as composting and farmers’ markets.

The two-hour camps will be held on five Saturdays, beginning June 1, 9 a.m.-11 a.m. or noon-2 p.m., at the Garden at School Within a School (SWS), 920 F St NE. There are six spots per session.

This camp is run by Morgan “Farmer Mo” Maloney, who was the farm education director at the Arcadia Center for Sustainable Food and Agriculture in Alexandria. She works for Fairfax County schools, bringing local produce into school meals. She lives nearby and is a caretaker of the SWS garden.

Cost is $350 for the series, with sibling discount of $25 for second child. Register by May 28. Contact farmermogrows@gmail.com with questions.
